Madalyn Pappas, Artist, Owner
Nature or nurture, it was inevitable that Madalyn Pappas would be an artist. Her mother and her sister are both artists and there were always several projects in progress. The inks, paints, clays and chalks tempted and surrounded her. So did the ever-present pets.
In 1998 the family, including Chloe the Cat and Pablo the Pug, moved from So Cal to Pelham in NY, near NYC. Maddie took full advantage of the museums and art school programs at Parsons, FIT and Cooper-Hewitt, all only a short train ride away, where she polished her drawing and painting skills. During this exploratory time she found an outlet for her interest in building and design.
Right now, Madalyn is calling Boston home; she is studying Industrial Design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. A couple of years from now she will be making our household products better in every way. Of course she will always continue to paint. And love animals.
"Paint with joy and it comes through to the viewer." -Mary
Combining an affinity for animals and formal art training has produced a style of pet portraiture that is fine art yet contemporary and fun.
"When I paint animals, I can perceive their personality and reflect it through color, composition, even brush strokes." -Maddie
Mary Pargas, Artist, Proud Mom
Mary is one of those 'creative types'. While still an art student, she renovated her studio apartment and went on to do this to successive apartments and houses. She has worked as an illustrator, art teacher, and graphic designer.
But her proudest creations are her daughters; both amazing artists and source of inspiration and creative energy. Marlie Jane is an illustrator in NYC. (Check out her sketch blog: www.marliejane.blogspot.com) . Maddie is her muse and partner. She does some of the portraits for PaintyPETs! and on her school breaks, she assists her mom with murals and other decorative painting for sister company, PaintyPots, www.paintypots.com
